Disney Cruise Line celebrated the delivery ceremony of its new ship, the Disney Destiny, in Eemshaven, Netherlands, marking the completion of construction and the official transfer of the vessel from Meyer Werft to the operator. This event signals an essential milestone in the life of every cruise ship, symbolizing the successful conclusion of the construction process and preparation for its commercial debut.

Ceremony and Ship Reception

During the event, key representatives from the Disney group attended the celebration: Joe Schott (President of Disney Signature Experiences), Sharon Siskie (General Vice President of Disney Cruise Line), and Captain Andy McRonald, who will command the vessel on its journey to its new home port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The delivery constitutes a deeply rooted maritime tradition, as it is the moment when the shipyard transfers ownership and operation to the ship owner. This milestone adds a new chapter to the history of Disney Cruise Line, which continues to invest in themed ships and immersive experiences for families.

Preparations for the Inaugural Voyage

With the formal delivery, the Disney Destiny will undergo sea trials—the stage known as “sea trials”—before embarking on the transatlantic crossing to the United States. Its arrival in Fort Lauderdale positions it as the epicenter of new adventures based on Disney’s iconic characters—heroes and villains—that permeate every space and show on the vessel.

The first passenger voyage will be on November 20, launching a schedule that promises unique entertainment and activities in areas such as the Grand Hall inspired by Black Panther, the themed pub Cask & Cannon, and exclusive theatrical productions at the Walt Disney Theatre (including “Disney Hercules”).

Innovation and Fleet Expansion

The delivery ceremony of the Disney Destiny coincides with sustained growth of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which incorporates advanced design elements and technology. In parallel, the Meyer Werft shipyard celebrated the steel cutting for the next ship scheduled to arrive in 2027, thus reaffirming the commitment to innovation and expansion.

The addition of the Disney Destiny, in addition to providing new themed options to the Disney Cruise Line catalog, confirms the brand’s leadership in the family segment and the development of experiences based on legendary characters and narratives.

The ship will begin its commercial life soon to set sail from Europe to American shores, where families and fans will be able to experience adventures of heroes and villains never before seen in the cruise realm.
