Royal Caribbean International has announced a new strategic partnership with MARES Center for the restoration and conservation of coastal ecosystems in Mahahual, Quintana Roo.
The partnership includes a $50,000 investment allocated to environmental restoration projects and educational activities. The plan encompasses the restoration of 20 hectares of critical ecosystems, including mangroves, dunes, and seagrasses, which are fundamental for the preservation of coral reefs and marine life in the region.

As part of the project, priority will be given to hiring local residents, generating direct employment and encouraging community participation. Additionally, the initiative incorporates an educational component that will include workshops for children, local community members, and private sector employees, as well as diving and marine conservation training programs specifically designed for local women.
Restoration activities are scheduled to begin this year, once the most suitable areas for intervention have been identified. This collaboration aligns with Royal Caribbean Group’s SEA the Future commitment, which aims to provide sustainable vacation experiences while protecting the environment and supporting local communities.
MARES Center (Marine Resilience & Sustainability Center) is a non-governmental organization established in Mahahual since 2016, dedicated to restoring Caribbean Sea biodiversity. As a leading institution in marine ecology, sustainable coastal management, and environmental awareness, MARES Center bases its work on effective collaboration with local communities and government entities.
