Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas Begins Sea Trials Ahead of August Debut

May 21, 2025

Royal Caribbean’s newest Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, has initiated its sea trials phase, representing a pivotal milestone in its extensive construction journey. This crucial stage demonstrates the culmination of years of meticulous planning and engineering excellence.

The magnificent vessel is presently undertaking an intensive 11-day testing period, during which more than 2,000 seasoned experts from diverse maritime disciplines are conducting a wide array of rigorous technical examinations. These sophisticated tests encompass detailed evaluations of the vessel’s movement capabilities across various sea conditions, systematic assessment of its advanced propulsion systems, and comprehensive trials pushing its state-of-the-art engine performance to maximum capacity to ensure optimal functionality.

These extensive sea trials are being meticulously executed at the renowned Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, a facility known for its excellence in shipbuilding, before the vessel proceeds into its final and most detailed phase of construction. Upon successful completion of these critical trials and finishing touches, Star of the Seas will embark on its maiden journey to Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, where it is scheduled to make its grand debut in August 2025, introducing a new era of cruise experiences.

This innovative vessel will showcase eight distinctively designed neighborhoods, each thoughtfully crafted to serve as independent destinations within the ship, significantly expanding upon the groundbreaking Icon Class concept that was successfully pioneered by its predecessor, Icon of the Seas. These unique spaces promise to deliver unprecedented levels of entertainment, relaxation, and adventure for guests of all ages.
