Odaiba
Seaside parks, the Rainbow Bridge and the Miraikan museum, beside the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.
At a glance
The Rainbow Bridge promenade crosses 1.7 km of Tokyo Bay on foot, between Shibaura and Odaiba, in 20 to 30 minutes.
Odaiba is the waterfront district built on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay, linked to central Tokyo by the Rainbow Bridge and the Yurikamome automated transit line. Its name comes from the cannon batteries (daiba) built offshore in the 1850s. Today it combines seaside parks, shopping centres, offices and museums, with wide promenades and views across the bay to the city skyline.
The Tokyo International Cruise Terminal stands in Aomi, at the southern edge of Odaiba, so the district is the obvious first walk for passengers with a short call or a few spare hours. A 20-minute walk north leads to Odaiba Seaside Park and its artificial beach, the Fuji Television building with its spherical observation room and the shopping malls around Daiba station. The Miraikan science museum is a few minutes from the terminal.
It is also a good start for a longer day: the Rainbow Bridge promenade can be walked to Shibaura, the Yurikamome continues to Shimbashi, and water buses leave Odaiba Seaside Park for Hinode pier and Asakusa.

Odaiba is flat with wide promenades, and the Yurikamome stations have lifts. The Rainbow Bridge promenade can be used in a wheelchair only with a helper, because of the steep gradients; children will enjoy the beach and Miraikan.
