The third ship of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, the Legend of the Seas, has reached an important milestone in its construction process by floating for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. This event marks a significant step in the development of this new cruise ship that promises to revolutionize the vacation experience at sea.

The flooding process of the dry dock where the ship was located took approximately 12 hours, after which the Legend of the Seas was transferred to the outfitting dock where it will continue its construction and fitting-out process. This engineering achievement represents a crucial advancement toward the completion of the ship, scheduled for August 2026.

The Legend of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean’s innovative Icon Class and will offer passengers unique experiences distributed across eight themed neighborhoods. Among the most prominent attractions are the Category 6 water park and Crown’s Edge, a combination of skywalk, ropes course, and adventure attraction. Additionally, the ship will feature various dining options and relaxation spaces for all tastes and ages.

According to announced plans, the Legend of the Seas will begin its journey in summer 2026 with 7-night Western Mediterranean itineraries, before moving to the Caribbean in November of the same year. There it will offer 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean cruises, including visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private destination in the Bahamas.

It’s worth noting that this new cruise ship will be the company’s fourth to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, in addition to incorporating cutting-edge environmental programs such as waste heat recovery systems and shore power connection. These innovations are part of Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to introduce a zero-net-emissions cruise ship by 2035, thus strengthening its commitment to sustainability in the shipping industry.
