Royal Caribbean celebrated this week a significant milestone in the construction of its fourth ship of the revolutionary Icon Class, with the keel-laying ceremony at the Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku. This event officially marks the beginning of the physical construction of the new vessel, which will continue taking shape over the next two years until its scheduled debut in 2027.
During the celebration, the first building block was placed in the dry dock where the ship’s assembly will take place. Following maritime tradition, the teams from Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku sealed the deal—and good fortune—by placing a layer of freshly minted coins before the enormous steel block, known as the keel, was lifted and positioned.
This new cruise ship, whose name has not yet been revealed, will join the Icon Class fleet alongside its predecessors: Icon, Star, and Legend of the Seas. The cruise line promises that this fourth ship will continue to offer the unmatched combination of experiences that defines this revolutionary class of vessels in the industry.
Each Icon Class ship is designed to provide numerous options for families and travelers of all types to create memorable experiences, combining thrills and adrenaline with spaces to relax, plus a varied selection of dining and entertainment offerings.
Royal Caribbean has announced that it will provide more details about this new member of the Icon Class soon, as it continues to expand its innovative fleet with vessels designed to transform the cruise vacation experience.
