MSC Cruises Names Drew Barrymore as Godmother of MSC World America

March 5, 2025

MSC Cruises has announced that acclaimed actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore will serve as the Godmother of their newest U.S. flagship, MSC World America. The naming ceremony is scheduled for April 9 at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, which is set to become the world’s largest cruise terminal.

Barrymore, who recently starred in MSC Cruises’ “Let’s Holiday” campaign that aired during the Super Bowl, will be joined by co-star Orlando Bloom for the traditional maritime ceremony. The event will include the time-honored tradition of breaking a bottle of champagne on the ship’s hull, symbolizing good luck and protection for the vessel and its passengers.

The star expressed her enthusiasm about the role, stating, “I absolutely love to travel—it fuels my soul—and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing”.

MSC World America represents a significant milestone for the cruise line, featuring seven distinct districts and an impressive array of amenities. The ship boasts 19 dining venues, including the only Eataly restaurant at sea, and 18 bars and lounges. Families will enjoy The Harbour, a new outdoor venue featuring the Cliffhanger over-water swing ride, a water park, and various entertainment options.

Following the naming ceremony, the ship will embark on a special 3-night inaugural sailing to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. The celebration will coincide with the opening of a new Marine Conservation Centre on Ocean Cay, dedicated to the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Programme, which aims to protect and restore coral reefs affected by climate change.
