The port of Messina is a true gift for cruise passengers. The cruise terminal is located literally across from the historic center, making it one of the most comfortable and easiest ports to explore on your own in the entire Mediterranean.
1. A Privileged Location (Everything a step away)

Although Messina is charming, the reality is that a large part of cruise passengers use this port as a starting point to visit Taormina, one of the most beautiful and picturesque towns in all of Italy, with breathtaking views of the sea and the Mount Etna volcano.

Taxi / Private Transportation: At the port exit, you will find dozens of taxi drivers and vans offering round trips to Taormina. The journey takes about 45 to 50 minutes. (Always remember to agree on the price and return time before getting in).

Train: The Messina train station (Messina Centrale) is about a 15-20 minute walk from the cruise terminal. The train to the Taormina-Giardini station takes about 40-50 minutes. From there, you will need to take a short bus ride or a taxi up to the town, which is located on top of the hill.
