GENOA (May 9, 2025) – Costa Cruises has presented its strategic plan, which includes continuous fleet enhancements, the development of new routes, and a significant refurbishment of Costa Serena. The company, part of Carnival Corporation & plc, has invested over 200 million euros in modernizing its ships since initiating an improvement plan in 2021.
Costa Serena will undergo an extensive dry dock, with completion expected in November of this year. Following the renovation, the ship will feature a new dining area that includes the Archipelago restaurant, Pizzeria Pummid’Oro, and Sushino@Costa. It will also present an updated design for the main restaurants, redesigned pools and bars, and completely renovated suites. Between October and December 2026, Costa Serena will undertake a World Cruise itinerary from Tokyo to Buenos Aires. Subsequently, it will be positioned in South America for the winter 2027 season and will offer Mediterranean-focused journeys starting in spring 2027.
As part of its strategic fleet assessment, Costa Fortuna, the longest-serving ship, will leave the Costa fleet. The transfer to its new owner is scheduled for mid-September 2026. Until then, the vessel will continue to operate its planned itineraries, including programs to Greece and Turkey in summer 2025 and the Canary Islands in winter 2025/2026.
Costa Cruises’ strategy also focuses on product innovation, such as “Sea and Land” itineraries, which combine sea and land destinations. Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises, indicated that the company’s goal is to offer quality experiences to its guests through continuous product innovation, fleet investment, and the introduction of new routes.
