First look at Lelepa: Royal Caribbean’s New Destination in the South Pacific

May 16, 2025

Royal Caribbean International is set to expand its portfolio of exclusive beach destinations with the announcement of Lelepa, marking a significant milestone as the first exclusive cruise destination in the Southern Hemisphere.

Located in the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu, east of Australia, Lelepa is scheduled to welcome its first guests in early 2027. This pristine destination promises to deliver a unique blend of natural beauty and carefully curated experiences for cruise travelers sailing from Australia.

Steven Picone, Senior Manager of Product Development at Royal Caribbean, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We’re now super excited to announce this destination in Lelepa, which has been in the works for quite some time.”

The company has invested considerable time in understanding the island’s topography to maximize its natural appeal. Visitors can look forward to exploring serene beaches, wandering through nature trails, and participating in various water activities. A standout feature will be a floating bar where guests can savor cocktails inspired by local flavors while enjoying panoramic views of the crystal-clear waters and mountain backdrop.

Royal Caribbean has placed significant emphasis on incorporating local culture and natural elements into the destination. The development includes multiple beach areas complemented by a nature playground and beach bars integrated into the sandy shoreline. Water enthusiasts will have the opportunity to snorkel directly off the coast, exploring the vibrant marine life of the South Pacific.

The location’s natural features are particularly noteworthy, with crystal-clear blue waters extending for miles and a dramatic mountain backdrop creating a stunning visual experience that, according to development team members, “pictures just don’t do justice”.

This new destination joins Royal Caribbean’s collection of exclusive beach destinations, which includes Labadee in Haiti, and represents a strategic expansion of the cruise line’s private destinations into the Southern Hemisphere. The development is specifically designed to enhance the cruise experience for guests in the Australian market, offering them a convenient and exclusive paradise getaway in their region.
