In a significant development for Caribbean cruise destinations, Half Moon Cay, the renowned private island in The Bahamas, is being rebranded as ‘RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay’ as part of an extensive enhancement project announced jointly by Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line.
The transformation, scheduled for completion throughout 2026, will introduce substantial improvements while preserving the island’s natural charm. Key developments include a new pier on the island’s north side that will accommodate Carnival’s Excel class ships for the first time.

Half Moon Cay north and south areas
The upgraded destination will feature dual welcome plazas on both the north and south sides of the island, connected by over a mile of pristine white-sand beach. Visitors can expect enhanced amenities including:
- A refreshed Bahamian-style south side with a new beach club
- Two new lunch venues and island-themed bars on the north side
- Additional lounging areas and cabanas
- A convenient tram service for easy island navigation
Beth Bodensteiner, Holland America Line’s president, emphasized that the south side will maintain its secluded paradise atmosphere that guests have enjoyed since 1997. Meanwhile, Christine Duffy, Carnival Cruise Line’s president, revealed that future itineraries from 2026 onward will offer guests the opportunity to experience both RelaxAway and Celebration Key as complementary destinations.
