Major Cruise Lines Will Turn the 2026 FIFA World Cup into an Event at Sea

MSC, Norwegian and several Carnival Corporation brands are preparing live broadcasts of all matches from the 2026 World Cup

The celebration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held between June 11 and July 19 in Canada, Mexico and the United States, will also be experienced intensely at sea, with major cruise lines preparing extensive live coverage for their passengers. The trend points to turning ships into authentic “floating venues” for the tournament, with broadcasts in bars, lounges, theatres, outdoor screens and, in some cases, also in cabins.

MSC Cruises: All Matches Across the Entire Fleet

MSC Cruises has confirmed that all ships in its fleet will broadcast every match of the 2026 championship live throughout the tournament. Broadcasts will be offered from June 11 to July 19, 2026, a period during which 48 national teams will compete in the first World Cup jointly organised by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Onboard, passengers will be able to follow matches in a wide variety of spaces: sports bars, casino bars, LED screens in pool areas, as well as selected lounges and theatres, allowing for different atmospheres depending on the type of fan. In addition, MSC has designed themed activities related to the tournament, including interactive games, contests and family-friendly proposals to complement the live broadcasts.

Coverage will be available regardless of itinerary, both on Caribbean cruises and on routes through the Mediterranean and other destinations where football has a strong presence. The company emphasises that the goal is for guests to be able to follow their national team without giving up a cruise holiday, a message aligned with the strategy of reinforcing sports entertainment as added value to the onboard experience.

Norwegian Cruise Line: Full Cup Coverage and Two Simultaneous Channels

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is also joining the comprehensive coverage of the 2026 World Cup, announcing that its entire fleet will offer live broadcasts of matches. The cruise line has confirmed that all matches played between June 11 and July 19 will be available on its ships, coinciding with summer in the northern hemisphere.

One of the standout features of NCL’s plan is the use of two dedicated channels for the tournament, which will allow two matches to be broadcast simultaneously when the schedule requires it and give passengers the ability to choose which match to follow. Additionally, the company plans to record matches so they can be watched on demand within 24 hours, an option designed for those on shore excursions or participating in other onboard activities during match time.

Guests will be able to follow matches both in public spaces and in cabins, through special television channels, setting up a flexible consumption model adapted to different passenger profiles. Company executives note that this proposal seeks to attract travellers who don’t want to choose between discovering new destinations and following a global sporting event live.

Carnival Corporation: Multiple Brands with Full Rights

Carnival Corporation has secured an agreement with IMG to ensure broadcasting rights for all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup through Sport 24 special channels across several of its brands. Among the companies offering the tournament are Princess Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, Seabourn and P&O Cruises, which plan to broadcast all matches live between June 11 and July 19.

Broadcasts will be available in public spaces and also in cabins, giving passengers options to follow matches in a more social environment or in a private setting. Some brands have already indicated specific locations, such as British-style pubs aboard Cunard ships or themed bar spaces on P&O Cruises, which are emerging as meeting points for fans.

This deployment across multiple brands reinforces Carnival Corporation’s strategy of integrating global sporting events into its cruise entertainment offering, positioning its ships as spaces to follow the competition without leaving the vacation environment.

Towards a “World Cup Season” at Sea

The coordinated preparation of these cruise lines for the 2026 World Cup reflects a clear trend: major sporting events have become stably integrated into onboard entertainment programming. The availability of live broadcasts, large-format screens, dedicated channels and complementary activities makes cruises an attractive option for those who want to combine holidays with tournament viewing.

For cruise companies, football represents a tool to build loyalty among existing fans and attract new segments, especially in markets where the sport has a strong presence. Looking ahead to summer 2026, everything points to a “World Cup season” at sea, with several major industry groups also competing to offer the best football experience onboard.
