In a significant development for the cruise industry, MSC Group is strengthening its infrastructure footprint with two major terminal projects in Barcelona and Miami. These state-of-the-art facilities represent the company’s commitment to enhancing passenger experiences and expanding its global presence in key cruise markets.
The Barcelona terminal, designed by the renowned Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura (RBTA), marked a milestone on February 15, 2025, when it welcomed its first passengers from MSC Fantasia. Sandra Yunta, Director of the MSC Barcelona Cruise Terminal, and Gianluca Suprani, SVP of Global Port Development and Shore Activities, commemorated the occasion with a special cava toast for the inaugural guests. The terminal will serve both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys ships, demonstrating MSC Group’s strategic investment in the Mediterranean cruise market.
Meanwhile, in Miami, MSC is preparing to unveil what will become the world’s largest cruise terminal. The $300 million Terminal AA/AAA at PortMiami, scheduled for its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 6, 2025, represents a three-year development project that will revolutionize cruise operations in North America. The facility is designed to handle an impressive capacity of up to 36,000 cruise passengers daily, setting new standards for port infrastructure.
These developments reflect the cruise industry’s recovery and growth following global travel disruptions. MSC’s investment in both terminals indicates strong confidence in the sector’s future and responds to increasing demand for cruise travel. The terminals incorporate advanced technology and efficient design to streamline embarkation processes and enhance the overall passenger experience.
The Barcelona terminal’s innovative architecture and the Miami terminal’s record-breaking capacity demonstrate MSC’s dedication to creating modern, efficient cruise facilities. Both terminals are expected to significantly impact their respective local economies through increased tourism and job creation.
