Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has announced significant development plans for its private island destination, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The comprehensive enhancement project is set to debut in the fourth quarter of 2025, coinciding with the completion of a new multi-ship pier.

The ambitious renovation plans include several key additions to elevate the guest experience. Visitors can look forward to a new welcome center, an extensive pool complex featuring a swim-up bar, family splash pad, and poolside cabanas. The island will also implement a convenient island-wide tram system to facilitate seamless exploration.

Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., emphasized that Great Stirrup Cay is already one of their top-rated destinations worldwide. The company is anticipating annual guest visits to exceed one million by 2026, prompting them to actively evaluate additional investments in the island’s infrastructure and amenities.

The development will also bring several popular Norwegian Cruise Line ship concepts to the island. These include the adults-only Vibe Beach Club, featuring private cabanas, loungers, and upgraded amenities. Additionally, the island will introduce Horizon Park, a recreational area offering lawn games and family gathering spaces. To maintain the authentic Bahamian atmosphere, a new relaxation area will feature swaying hammocks and various Tiki-inspired amenities.

David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating that these enhancements are just the beginning of their plans to reimagine the island experience. The announcement comes at a significant time for NCL, as they are also welcoming their newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, to the fleet.
