Named after the west point of the compass, she was the first ship in the fleet to receive Explorations Central, in 2017.
Westerdam entered service in April 2004 as the third of Holland America Line's four Vista-class ships, and her name comes from "wester", Dutch for west. She was named in Venice by Dutch actress Renée Soutendijk and sailed her maiden voyage from there. A dry dock in 2017 added Explorations Central in the Crow's Nest, The Retreat, Billboard Onboard and 25 staterooms. In 2026 she sails mainly in Asia from Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore, followed by Alaska from Vancouver and Whittier in summer 2027 and a season in Australia and New Zealand from late 2027.
